With Autumn just around the corner it’s the perfect time to look at the colour trends our salon experts are predicting we’ll see this coming season, and the trends that they are starting themselves! We spoke to our International Technical Director Nathan Walker, who works closely with industry insiders, to find out which colour we should be asking for in the coming months:
Green with envy
We’ve seen pastel pinks, purples and denim hair but now it’s time for greens to take centre stage. From acid-yellow greens for bold statements, to subtle metallic greens used to cool brunette tones, Autumn will be the season of green. If committing to a full colour change is too daunting for you, then you could try having cleverly placed panels of green (such as a rich emerald tone) put through that will only catch the light when your hair is moving – subtle but impactful, and perfect for AW16.
Remember the trend in the mid-90s for stripy highlights and lowlights? We’re happy to say the Ginger Spice look isn’t making a comeback, however a more tasteful version that we call panelling is on the way in. Following on from the balayage and low-maintenance colour trends that we’ve seen in the last couple of years, panelling involves expertly placing larger sections of colour that contrast or compliment your colour for a soft, natural effect or a bolder statement.
It may have been around for a while now, but balayage won’t be going anywhere soon! However don’t just think of balayage as adding blonde tones to a darker root, you can use the same technique to add darker, more Autumnal tones, perfect for those who were converted over the summer, but want to try a darker tone for the colder months.
A huge focus on hair repair and strengthening started last year with the launch of cutting-edge bond strengthening services, which quickly became must-have services for discerning clients who only want the best colour care for their hair. As interest in this area builds there are new innovations coming through all the time – we already offer our clients Olaplex and Smartbond which we feel are the two best services on the market, but it’s exciting to see how these will develop in the next year or so.
