JOHANNA CREE-BROWN, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AT TREVOR SORBIE WAS NAMED CREATIVE HAIRCOLOUR WINNER IN BEHINDTHECHAIR.COM’S GLOBAL #ONESHOT COMPETITION
behindthechair.com is the world’s largest online community for hairstylists, with over 1.5 million members from 90 countries, and recently held its first ever hair awards event called #ONESHOT. The competition was fierce! More than 47,000 photos were submitted – more than any hair awards event in history.
During the awards event, Johanna Cree-Brown was the recipient of the first-ever Big Shot Award for Creative Hair Colour. Within the Big Shot division, there were six categories, each of which was divided into North American and international subcategories, with 25 finalists in each subcategory. Finalists and winners were selected by a group of 100 of the world’s most accomplished and prestigious hairdressers.
The first of its kind, the competition was conceived by behindthechair’s Founder and Creative Director Mary Rector-Gable. Rector-Gable reveals that the #ONESHOT format—a single image shared and hashtagged on Instagram—reflects the realities of a contemporary hair contest. “We have always celebrated photographic images one shot at a time,” she states. “And with every hairstyle collection, there is always a hero shot. I wanted to create a contest which offered complete transparency–where everyone in the hair world could plainly see the work that had been entered, rather than a contest in which entries are hidden behind a firewall accessible only to the judges. We also took it a step further and handpicked 100 of the best hairdressers in the world to vote on the Big Shot categories. This elite judging panel included world-wide hair award winners, iconic platform educators and fashion and session stylists.”
