April 1, 2016 9:02 am

Hairdressing is a fast-paced, dynamic industry that’s perfect for people who are creative and sociable. There are numerous ways you can carve out a career in hair; from studying at college, apprenticeships, courses or learning in-salon. As a company we believe the best way to build the experience and skills you’ll need to be successful is to train within the salon environment, and work on the salon floor with professional hairdressers’.

Do I need hairdressing experience to work as an assistant?

It’s not necessary to have any previous experience of working in hairdressing to train as an assistant with us, however you will need to be passionate about the industry. Our training courses are typically 2-3 years (depending on the individual) so dedication is absolutely key – this is truly a vocation where the more you put into it, the more you get out. Therefore the main thing we look for is dedication and commitment to forging a career with us. After your training is complete you may then be invited to undergo our ‘Vardering’ process which is a further intensive training course that culminates with a test where models are presented to Trevor and senior members of the Art Team. If you are successful in your test you will then become a Trevor Sorbie Stylist or Technician, and part of his award-winning, history-making team!

Do I need a to be a school/college leaver to start a career in hairdressing?

The joy of hairdressing is that it has no age limits! We’ve had assistants of all ages train with us; from school leavers right up to people coming from established jobs who want to follow a new career path. One of the benefits of training in-salon is that you’ll still be earning a salary while you learn, rather than having to subsidise a course by taking on work outside of training hours. We also don’t think anything compares with the knowledge and experience you’ll gain by actually working on a busy salon floor.

How do I apply to work for you?

The best thing is to send us a CV and covering letter explaining who you are and why you want to join us! We will then hold interviews with any successful applicants to get to know you better – your personality and ability to work in a team is key, and is often the deciding factor on who we ask to train with us. So make sure from your letter and interview that we get to know you, and understand what you could bring to the salon.
