With Spring finally around the corner, it’s the perfect time to try the latest celebrity trend – bright blondes! Kim Kardashian and Christina Hendricks are the latest A-listers to dramatically lighten their hair colour, and you too can achieve this bold change by following the advice of our colour specialists:
- A sometimes overlooked side effect of lightening hair is that it can make the face appear bigger – this is an optical illusion caused by losing the ‘frame’ that darker hair provides. A simple trick you can try is draping a white towel to cover your hair, which will simulate the effect blonde hair will have on your face.
- People presume that going blonde means reaching straight for a bottle of bleach, but there are lots of different products used in salons that can lighten hair without using harmful bleaches. Never attempt a drastic colour change at home, especially to blonde, as your hair’s condition, current colour and porosity can all affect how the colour develops. A salon expert will be able to assess all of this and ensure you leave the salon with the best colour possible.
- Blonde hair doesn’t reflect light in the same way as dark hair, so it will lose some of its natural shine. You can fight this by using shine enhancing products such as our High Shine Glosser, or Smoothing Serum. Both will add light reflecting pigments to the hair to return it’s healthy glow.
- Going bright blonde is a high maintenance colour choice, so be prepared to visit the salon every 4-6 weeks to have roots touched-up, especially if your natural colour is dark. There are things you can do at home to keep your colour looking vibrant and fresh – try using a silver shampoo with purple pigment (which mimics a salon toner) to stop blonde from looking brassy.
